Seafarers and Fishers
Welcome to Ashore - your first port of call. The
web site for seafarers, fishers and their
families: for people of the
sea who make their living from the oceans of the world.
Ashore is a list of international seafarers'
centres that have been established
by Christian churches and charitable organisations
for the care and support of the people of the sea:
seafarers, fishers & their families.
People of the
Sea
The Church has always been involved in the
pastoral care of seafarers. In the early
19th century the Christian
churches formalised their care for seafarers &
fishers with the appointment of chaplains to focus
on the spiritual and social needs of seafarers.
Welfare Agencies & Seafarers' Centres
Today many of the Christian churches work
together in caring for the people of the sea and
their families by establishing seafarers' centres.
